Members of YSR Students Union organised a ‘Jala Deeksha’ in the beach opposite YMCA on Tuesday demanding that the Centre accord special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

State general secretary of the union B. Kantha Rao said that the BJP and the TDP must fulfil the promise made by them at the time of elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should announce the special status at the foundation-laying ceremony at Amaravati, he said.

Meanwhile, relay fasts by YSRC leaders in the Assembly constituencies continued for the fourth day.

Former MLA M. Vijaya Prasad led a torch rally in Visakha West constituency.
