Inspiring talks from a group of achievers and noted personalities from across the country, thought-provoking ideas and a platform that saw many young minds come together were the highlights of the first edition of TEDx conducted at Indian Maritime University on Saturday. The event was held under the motto ‘Widening Viewpoints’.

Each of the speakers at the event had initiated and brought about a change in their community and profession, sharing their perceptions of the changing paradigms of the world in a series of motivating speeches that left the young crowd captivated.

Addressing the audience, Jawahar Surisetti, eminent educationist and psychologist, who was one the speakers, shares his views on dynamics of the present generation which is on a fast-track mode towards success.

“The youth today have withdrawn from the current governance because they are disillusioned by the ways of the leaders and the corruption that exists at every level. There is also a visible absence of youth in election process leading to a non-participation in political processes,” he added.

He urged the students to shun the disgruntled mindset, take into account the experiences of the past generation and find up ways to come up in life.

Mr Surisetti, who was awarded the BBC Knowledge Award for Outstanding Contribution to education, works among disadvantaged boys and girls and counsels them on careers and opportunities available to them, exam stress and other such issues that they are not aware of.

Ukranian writer-director Daria Gai spoke on creative processes that help to channelise the best from within an individual.

“I believe in passion; it is the basis of any creation. Do not allow your unique ways to disappear,” said the filmmaker.

Other speakers included Santosh Avvannar, the chief commercial officer of QtPi Robotics and a gender activist. Suhani Shah, a life coach and illusionist and Vaibhav Devanathan, CEO of LaughGuru.
