Former Rajya Sabha member and Chairman of AP Hindi Academy Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad on Sunday said that Tamil people always served as a source of inspiration to him.

Addressing the Teacher’s Day celebrations at Tamil Kalai Mandram in Visakhapatnam, he said thanks to a GO which accorded ancient language status to Tamil in early 2000, he along with others could strive for attaining similar honour—classical language status to Telugu.

He and his wife gave away mementos to Tamil, Odia and Bengali teachers on the occasion.

Earlier, former secretary Dhivakar welcomed the gathering and spoke on great Tamil poet Subrahmanya Bharati. Secretary J. Anantha Raman, office-bearers Cdr. Chinnaiah, Ravi Kumar, Chandran, A. Manoharan and others spoke.

A blood donation camp was conducted by the mandram in association with AS Raja Voluntary Blood Bank on the occasion. Cultural programmes were conducted in which children and elders participated.
