Jana Sena Party candidate for Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency V.V. Lakshminarayana on Monday questioned the authenticity of the exit polls conducted by various agencies.
“What expertise do they (the agencies) have to conduct the exit polls? What is their sample size and on what basis have they come to such numbers?” Mr. Lakshminarayana asked while speking to The Hindu.
Betting flourishing fast
He asked that who was benefiting from the exit poll numbers and for what purpose are they being done when the results are scheduled to be announced in just two days.
“Such exit polls will only benefit the betting industry which is flourishing fast. It is not a healthy trend as the democracy will suffer from it,” he observed.
The former CBI Joint Director further questioned as to who would take the responsibility if the exit polls went wrong.
“Will they ( the agencies) sign on bond paper that they would not hold such polls next time if the numbers go wrong?” he asked.
Mr. Lakshminarayana further said that it was time the Chief Election Commissioner must take a note of these concerns and did something about it.
