Visakhapatnam Port has been ranked among top three performing major ports in the country along with JNPT and Kamarajar ports.

Visakhapatnam Port has been placed in ‘good’ category in the index benchmarking the performance of major ports was introduced as part of a study conducted by Dun & Bradstreet for the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The performance index is developed by combining qualitative perception of stakeholders including customer satisfaction with quantitative outcomes like cargo volumes and physical efficiency.

During the study, feedback on both qualitative and quantitative aspects of business transactions from 700 respondents comprising government officials, trade bodies, exporters and importers, cargo handling and freight forwarding agents was taken. VPT Chairman M.T. Krishna Babu on Thursday expressed happiness over the achievement and expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for excellent feedback on the performance of the port.

Initiatives

The port has taken multi-pronged initiatives with a view to providing cost-effective services with specific focus on continual improvement in customer satisfaction and enhancing the status of ease of doing business. Some of the initiatives, according to Mr. Krishna Babu, include online submission of documents through web enabled ERP module, integrated port community system with POS and ICEGATE.
