Visakha Utsav: focus on safety of visitors

January 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Safety and security of visitors to the Visakha Utsav, scheduled to be held here from January 23 to 25, will be taken care of in all aspects, Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao said here on Monday.

The two aspects would not be compromised since severe erosion had taken place on the beach in the recent past and security should be tight in the present circumstances as a large number of people would be gathering at all the four venues of the festival, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said at a press conference.

“The level to which the waves would reach on the beach during high tide has been identified and the area where the venue for festival would be much away from that. Then the Coast Guard would be on standby while life guards would be deployed. We will also fence off the area from the water,” he said.

Diversion of traffic and parking areas would be planned to avoid inconvenience to the visitors.

Visakha Utsav is being held to improve the brand image of the city and the region and a theme song written by lyricist Sirevennela Sitarama Murthy and a logo designed for this year’s festival would be the permanent theme song and logo of the Visakha Utsav, he added.
