A privilege motion moved by YSRCP Rajya Sabha member V. Vijaya Sai Reddy against the police “high-handedness” at the Visakhapatnam airport was referred to the Privilege Committee by the Chairman of the Upper House.

‘High-handedness’

Mr. Vijaya Sai Reddy had complained and subsequently moved the privilege motion against the police for “harassment and high-handedness” when he, along with party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and MP Y.V. Subba Reddy, had landed at the airport on January 26, 2107, to take out a candlelight rally demanding Special Category Status (SCS).

An official communication from the the Rajya Sabha Chairman’s office said the motion was referred to the Privileges Committee for further proceedings.

It was alleged that the police had prevented Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Mr. Vijaya Sai Reddy, and Mr. Subba Reddy from leaving the airport to participate in the rally in the city.

Charging the police with high-handed behaviour, the three leaders, along with other party workers, had squatted on the airport’s tarmac, demanding that they be allowed to move out of the airport on that day.

“However, the police, including Task Force ACP Chitti Babu and SI Murali, had pushed and harassed us, and forcefully put us on the flight back to Hyderabad,” the leaders alleged.

The issue was brought to the notice of Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu, and a privilege motion was moved on January 31, 2017, which was admitted.
