Doctors of King George Hospital performed ‘thyroidectomy’ through a laparoscopic surgery recently.
A 40-year-old patient with 6 cm swelling of the thyroid was operated upon with three 5 mm incisions on the neck.
The procedure took one hour under general anaesthesia given by A. Satyanarayana and his team, and there was no blood loss, Chief of Surgical Division of King George Hospital T. Narayana Rao said in a statement here.
“There is no neck scar. It is less painful. There is no infection and recovery is fast,” Dr. Narayana Rao said.
“We have been doing video guided thyroidectomy with a small incision on the neck since long. However, this is the first time that we have performed neck surgery through the axilla route,” he added. “This procedure is covered under NTR Aarogysri,” he said.
