Three-day cricket tourney begins

A three-day tournament in memory of Annepu Amar Goutham, a young engineer who died in an accident at the Ship Building Centre here during March last year, commenced at the Railway Stadium here on Tuesday.

The AAG trophy with a cash award of Rs. 10,000 to the winner, would be held every year from now on, A. Krishna Rao, father of Goutham, said after Dronacharya award winner in boxing I. Venkateswara Rao inaugurated the tournament.

Eight teams are participating in the meet.

First day

On the first day Leo’s XI beat Avinash XI by 104 runs, Amar’s XI defeated Revenue XI by 32 runs and Andhra University XI defeated Seven Hills Hospitals by four wickets.

Family members and friends of Goutham, general secretary of East Coast Railway Sports Association B. Appanna Reddy and others participated in the inaugural function.
