While a large number of Hudhud-affected persons in the city have received relief material handed over by the government, a substantial stock has been cornered by local TDP leaders, APCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy has said.

Addressing the media here on Thursday, he said that as per the government records, 15 lakh families in the city received 25 kg rice, 2 kg dal, and other essential commodities.

“There are 13 lakh ration cards, 11.5 lakh white and 1.5 lakh pink, which means 2 lakh additional families have received the essential commodities,” he said.

“If it has really reached the 2 lakh families, it is laudable and there is no reason to complain. But during the interaction with the cyclone- affected persons, we have found many eligible persons have not received any extra ration,” Mr. Reddy said.

“We have every reason to believe that the additional relief material has been looted by the TDP leaders,” he added, and demanded that the government conduct a probe into it and punish those responsible.

He wanted the list of affected persons displayed at the gram sabha in Telugu to enable the affected persons to verify. .

Earlier in the day, the PCC president, along with former MLA Dronamraju Srinivas, distributed bedsheets or sarees to 10,000 affected persons in the Visakha South Constituency. Former Ministers Botcha Satyanarayana and Vatti Vasanth Kumar, and former Union Minister Killi Krupa Rani were among those present.
