Support to Maoist prisoners

A committee, expressing solidarity with the prisoners demanding implementation of their rights, supported the fast the Maoist prisoners observed in the Central Jail here on the occasion of martyrdom of revolutionary Jatin Das who died on September 13, 1929 after a 69-day fast.

The committee asked the government to implement the demands of the prisoners such as treating the Maoist prisoners as political prisoners and their release; end to arrest of those fighting for land, water and forests; commutation of death sentence on Jharkhand cultural activists; repealing of Jail Manual of 1894; and better amenities in jails.

Committee convenor T. Sreeramamurthy, Chalasani Prasad of Virasam, Lalita of Stree Shakti, M. Lakshmi of POW, K. Anuradha of POW (Stree Vimukti), S. Ramana of Dalita Vimukti, K. Joseph Raju of Rytu Coolie Sangham, advocate P. Appa Rao, and others participated.
