Streets in the city, which wore a deserted look during the last few days, are once again witnessing a rush of vehicles as people started returning after the Dasara vacation on Friday.

The Railway Station witnessed good crowds as people from the city, employed in other parts of the country, started leaving after the vacation. The Visakhapatnam Region of APSRTC operated three specials to Vijayawada and one to Hyderabad in addition to the existing services on Friday.

“The rush is normal today. The demand for Sunday is, however, very high. Already 10 special services are fully booked to Hyderabad and we plan to operate half-a-dozen more special buses to Hyderabad on that day for the benefit of those returning after the vacation,” Divisional Manager (Dwaraka Bus Station) Ch. Appalanarayana.

“We are also planning to operate 15 specials to Vijayawada, depending on the demand. There was good demand for Vijayawada as many had gone to participate in the capital foundation ceremony,” he said.

No cabs

Meanwhile, the air passengers, who returned from Hyderabad and other destinations on Friday morning, had a tough time in reaching their homes as there were no pre-paid taxis at the airport. “A cab driver demanded Rs.800 to drop me at Visalakhinagar, which is about double the fare. After some bargaining he agreed to take Rs.500 but wanted to pick up some passengers on the way to make up for the deficit,” said a passenger, who arrived from Hyderabad by SpiceJet.

“The online cab service providers are also not in a position to provide cabs promptly as many of their driver partners, apparently, switched off their mobiles to celebrate an extended holiday,” said another passenger, who failed to book an app-based service.
