With a view to creating public awareness on cleanliness in line with the mission of ‘Swachh Bharat’, members of CII’s Young India (Vizag Chapter) and Yellow Bin participated in a cleanliness drive at the busy RTC Complex here on Wednesday. Donning gloves and face masks, a team of 40 people cleaned the complex and the open sewage line opposite the GVMC office while highlighting the need for keeping the area and buses clean. The initiative was held to create an ecosystem of volunteerism in the country and mark the National Volunteering Week. “As a gesture of gratitude for the sweepers who toil in the nights to keep the city clean, we went around various areas in the cities in the night and thanked the workers for their service. We have lined up some events for the days ahead to highlight the objective of ‘Swachh Bharat’,” said former chair of Yi Vizag chapter Poonam Shah Srinath.
A poster-quote-poem competition on the theme of ‘Swachh Bharat’ will be held on Thursday for students of municipal and private schools. The posters will be displayed at Visakha Museum on Friday. Students of St. Joseph’s Convent and GVP College will be presenting a skit opposite Kali Temple at Beach Road on Friday as part of the awareness campaign. Apart from this, a clean-up drive will also be taken up in St. Joseph’s Convent.
