A first day cover on the eminent Carnatic exponent from Visakhapatnam, ‘Nada Yogi’ Sangeeta Kalanidhi Dr. Nedunuri Krishna Murthy, and another on the Buddhist heritage site of Bojjanna Konda – Sankaram, located near Anakapalle in Visakhapatnam district, were among the five such covers released at the AP State Level Numismatic and Philatelic Exhibition (Coins and Stamps) EG NPEX -2015 held at Kakinada in East Godavari district from May 15 to 17.
Members of the Numismatic and Philatelic Society of Visakhapatnam won a rich haul of prizes and medals at the first State-level exhibition, which was organised post bifurcation of the State.
Coins on ‘Indian Native States’
K. Kameswara Rao had won the first prize for his collection of coins on ‘Indian Native States’.
Cdr. G. Srirama Rao bagged three prizes for his collection of musical coins, music-related currency, and ‘unusual stamps’, besides two silver medals.
Gadu Satyanarayana bagged a prize for his collection of birth place covers and cancellations.
The other prize-winners from the city were: I. Ravi Kumar (Republic of India coins and currency), V.Ch.V.R. Gupta (Indian commemorative coins sets), G.K. Subrahmanyam (Indian Freedom and wildlife collection of stamps), K.C. Naidu (Glimpses of Freedom Struggle stamps), and K. Ravi (Errors in postal stationery).
The other three first day covers released at the exhibition were: Dokka Seethamma of East Godavari district, Kolleru Bird Sanctuary in West Godavari district, and the Dowleswaram Anicut on River Godavari.
The covers were released by the Director of Postal Services (Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada regions) K. Somasundaram.
“I had displayed 16 frames having 16 sheets each on musical stamps, currency on music, coins on music, and musical post offices and special cancellation covers. I had collected data and photographs of Sangita Kalanidhi Nedunuri Krishna Murthy. I had proposed the release of the special cover,” Cdr. Srirama Rao, who partly paid the cost of bringing out the special cover, told The Hindu .
“I had displayed over 100 birth place covers like ‘Porbander’, the birth place of The Mahatma, besides 80 sheets,” president of the Numismatic and Philatelic Society of Visakhapatnam Gadu Satyanarayana said.
