A few important works under AP Disaster Reconstruction Project are likely to be taken up as a part of Rs.243- crore loan of the World Bank.
Works costing Rs.40 crore to Rs.45 crore have been identified to be taken up ahead of the International Fleet Review in February next and another international event in October/November, according to Municipal Commissioner Pravin Kumar.
WB loan
World Bank has agreed, in principle, to extend a loan of $65 million for the Reconstruction Project after the city was devastated by cyclone Hudhud in October last.
Funds for another project are to prevent beach erosion that turned into a serious and recurring problem. A $25 million loan is proposed for this project.
On Monday discussions were held with a team from the World Bank on taking up the works, appointing consultants, preparing the detailed project reports and the team’s suggestions were taken, Mr Pravin Kumar told The Hindu.
Among the works proposed to be taken up early are the road from Fishing Harbour to NTR Statue (Rs.3 crore), NTR Statue to Kailasagiri (Rs.6.7 crore) and 11 other important ones costing Rs.42.32 crore.
Team leader Deepak Singh stressed the importance of meticulous DPRs.
Team visit
The team visited the areas where the works have been proposed.
The team comprises B.K.D. Raju, James Newman, V. Murahari Reddy, Surabhi Dhingra, Neha Vyas, Ch. Venkatarao and Vasudha Tavane.
