The 4-km NH 16 stretch from Kommadi to Paradesipalem is considered to be one of the most dangerous stretches on the 73-km of NH that passes through the city. In this year alone from January to October 6, the total number of fatal accidents recorded on this stretch was 16 and in nine cases the motorists were grievously injured. On July 21, 11 persons died in a single accident when an APSRTC bus rammed into an autorickshaw at Marikavalasa. Going by the dubious track record of the stretch, the traffic police have taken some measures to control the accidents.
Speaking to The Hindu , M. Srinivasa Rao, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Madhurawada Traffic Sub-Division, said that 16 stoppers were placed across the stretch at various vulnerable points such as the junctions of Kommadi, Marikavalasa, Dumping Yard and Paradesipalem.
According to Mr. Srinivasa Rao, the newly-acquired mobile interceptor vehicle will focus mainly on this stretch and the speed limit has been set to 40 kmph.
The newly-acquired mobile interceptor vehicle will be mainly used on this stretch
