Plea to PM on rail zone

Praja Spandana president C.S. Rao has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce the new railway zone in Andhra Pradesh with Visakhapatnam as headquarters without any further delay.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Mr. Rao noted that the citizens of Uttarandhra, comprising districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam, had sent innumerable representations since 2003 and more so post-bifurcation of AP, seeking immediate announcement of the zone.

MP K. Haribabu had given a categorical assurance that sanction of a separate railway zone with headquarters in Visakhaptnam was ‘definite’. Three years have passed but the announcement of the new zone was being delayed on some pretext or the other.

He wondered as to how much time was taken when seven mini zones were formed in 2003 and what technical scrutiny was done. He appealed to the Prime Minister to ponder over the ‘unjustified’ and ‘inordinate’ delay and come out with an open statement.

Mr. Rao also referred to the PIL filed by former MP and AP Minister Konathala Ramakrishna on the railway zone issue.
