One person crushed to death and another sustained serious injury when a huge container slipped off from the trailer which crashed into a high tension electric pole allegedly due to brake failure. The incident took place at NAD junction on Saturday. A large number of motorists and pedestrians had a lucky escape when the lorry hit the divider and went over to the other side of road.
The deceased was identified as SK Sadeena Hijra (38) of Dharmanagar, Kancharapalem. Assistant Commissioner of Police (North Division) V. Bhima Rao said the heavy vehicle carrying container with frozen shrimps was heading to Bhimavaram.
After the lorry hit the divider, the container fell on median. Commuters waiting for buses going towards Maddilapalem, ran for their life after seeing the lorry coming towards them. The lorry driver, who was injured, escaped from the spot.
