A two-day State-level meeting of AP Alliance for Child Rights (APACR), which emerged as a result of commonly-shared understanding by several NGOs, networks, and activists, has decided to continue the child rights advocacy campaign through ‘Bala Nestham'.
The meeting, which concluded in Hyderabad on Tuesday, was attended by NGO representatives from all the 23 districts of the State. Minister for Women and Child Welfare Sunita Lakshma Reddy, Additional Project Director of Rajiv Vidya Mission V. Nageswara Rao, Primary Education Principal Secretary Chandana Khan, and Principal Secretary (labour) D. Srinivasulu were among those who attended the meeting.
Honorary secretary of Bala Vikas Foundation Narava Prakasa Rao and secretary of ‘Nature' Balaraju attended the meeting from the city.
It was decided at the meeting that the organisations working for the rights of children should work through ‘Bala Nestham' with the assistance of United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), in the districts, Mr. Prakasa Rao said.
The other resolutions adopted at the meeting include training for children in ‘reporting' on the problems of children and to run a children's magazine with the financial assistance of UNICEF.
The meeting appealed to the government for formation of a State child rights commission to sensitise the public, particularly parents, on the importance of educating children and implementation of RTEAct, promotion of district-level forums to address child rights violations and sensitisation of elected representatives on the status of children and their rights.
