Along with revival of defunct Nehru Yuva Kendra Clubs, they will be made over for a new role in skill development, NYK Sangathan national vice-chairman P. Sekhar Rao has said.

Eighty per cent of the 2.8 lakh clubs in 625 districts of the country were defunct and they would be formed afresh, he told reporters here on Sunday.

Besides, a decision had been taken to appoint 150 of the 280 district coordinator posts lying vacant. The honorarium to block-level volunteer had been increased from Rs.2,500 to Rs.5,000 per month recently. He alleged that the functioning of NYK Clubs suffered under the UPA dispensation.

Mr. Rao said that in 5,600 villages of north coastal districts, the NYK, using its network of hundreds of clubs, would take up a scientific survey of skill development requirements of youths.

It was observed that thousands of youths from Srikakulam were migrating to other parts of the State and country in search of work while those from Rajasthan, Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh were working in construction and other sectors in Visakhapatnam.

The survey would be conducted in the next three months and project reports prepared detailing the areas in which skill development was required. The Narendra Modi government has formed a Skill Development Ministry to bridge the gaps in skills and provide employment.

Mr. Rao said, once the project reports were prepared, they would be taken to the notice of Skill Development Minister R. P. Rudy and Minister of State for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya, who assured their cooperation in implementation.

NYK Coordinators of Visakhapatnam, and Srikakulam and Vizianagaram respectively K.V. Ramana and S. Raghu were present.

Besides reviving defunct ones across the county, NYK Sangathan is keen on equipping youth with required skill set
