The Forest Department is planning to raise nurseries on premises of at least 2,000 schools in the district and supply the saplings to the local villagers.

The nurseries would be raised in schools having sufficient open space, water facility and compound wall, Divisional Forest Officer Rammohan Rao said during a meeting of Forest Department officials Mr. Rammohan Rao, Suryanarayana, IKV Raju and G. Lakshman and District Education Officer M.V. Krishna Reddy here on Saturday.

Mandal Education Officers and Forest Department officials would identify schools with the required facilities by October 9.

Saplings of shade-giving trees, fruit-bearing trees and flower plants would be raised in the nurseries.

The plantation programme is being taken up with the Mahatma Gandhi NREGS funds.
