January 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:15 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The NTPC has submitted revised layout for issue of Terms of Reference to the Ministry of Environment and Forests following objections by the latter over its 4,000 MW ultra modern power project at Pudimadaka near here.

A senior NTPC official told The Hindu that following the objections, they had submitted the revised layout of the project on January 9. ToR is likely to be considered by the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Ministry on January 29. Once it is cleared, environment impact assessment (EIA) study will be taken up.

The EAC at the meeting held on December 22 and 23 observed that the proposed site had a large number of water bodies, it was in high flood zones and tsunami prone area. Due to ‘complex hydrological system,’ it wanted the project to be shifted away from ecologically sensitive area .The official said that they had complied with the report .
