‘Not getting SMS from IRCTC website’

Passengers, booking their reservation on various trains through the IRCTC website, are often facing a peculiar problem.

“I book my train tickets online through the IRCTC website. After the booking is completed, I get a message on my mobile saying the transaction is successful but many times I had not received the booking details like berth and train number,” says Ch. Srinivasa Rao, frequent traveller from the city.

“Sometimes, the SMS is received several hours after the booking is done, and many times I had not received the details at all. I later found out that a passenger can login in to the website again and check the booking history and click on the window ‘Get SMS’ to get the details on the mobile,” he says.

There seems to be some technical error due to which the SMS is not being generated automatically by the system. The technical error should be corrected for the convenience of passengers.

An Ola customer got a shock, when he was levied a ‘cancellation charge’ of ₹75, when he was actually in a ride by the same taxi aggregator.

Three steps are required by a person booking on the online app: give the destination, book the ride and confirm the ride. “I was in the midst of a ride from Gopalapatnam and Daspalla Hotel (Police Barracks) on March 31, when I received a message on my mobile at 9.54 a.m. levying a cancellation fee of ₹.75 and saying it would be deducted on my next booking.”

“I was shocked as I had boarded the cab at Gopalapatnam at 9.42 a.m. and reached my destination at 10.14 a.m. How can I book another cab, while I am in transit? The system does not allow it.”

“I sent a message to the taxi aggregator but there is no reply from them,” says the customer, who was actually taken for a ride.
