An upper air circulation over coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Bay of Bengal has brought copious rain for north Andhra and other coastal districts of the State during the past few days.

The city was literally soaked in rain due to the continual showers and occasional downpour on Monday.

Petty vendors had a tough time selling their wares, braving the rain. Rain water overflowed onto the roads at many places, causing inconvenience to pedestrians and motorcyclists. Autorickshaw drivers had a tough time driving in and out of the parking area inside the Dwaraka Bus Station as the entire area was waterlogged. The area was full of pot holes and the approach was also in a bad shape. Some of the roads dug up for UGD works and laying cables by various operators were not covered fully and the overflowing water made it difficult for motorists to drive on these roads.

“Yesterday’s upper air circulation over coastal AP and adjoining Bay extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level persists. Under its influence, coastal AP received huge amount of rainfall,” a spokesman of the Cyclone Warning Centre said on Monday evening. The chief amounts of rainfall received (recorded in cm) during the last 24 hours are: Poosapatirega – 11, Vizianagaram – 10, Ranasthalam and Visakhapatnam (Waltair) – 9 each, Gajapathinagaram, Macherla, Denkada, Merakamudidam and Bondapalli – 7 each, Visakhapatnam airport, Bhimili, Gantyada – 6 each, Terlam, Garividi, Nellimarla and Anakapalle – 5 each.
