Navy undertakes mega beach cleanup campaign

Over 3,500 naval personnel and others take part in it

A massive beach cleanup operation was taken up by the Eastern Naval Command here on Saturday.

The programme, organised as part of the 33rd International Coastal Cleanup Day evoked an encouraging response from schoolchildren and others. It was organised for the seventh consecutive year. A record number of over 3,500 naval personnel, defence civilians, their families, Kendriya Vidyalaya children and NCC cadets took part at major waterfronts of Visakhapatnam.

14 groups

The drive was inaugurated by Vice Admiral Karambir Singh, Flag Officer Commanding-in Chief, Eastern Naval Command at R.K. Beach in the presence of P. Basanth Kumar, Metropolitan Commissioner and M. Hari Narayanan, GVMC Commissioner. All the participants were divided into 14 groups and cleaned various locations at R.K. Beach, Tenneti Park, Yarada, Rushikonda and INS Kalinga.
