Muslim charitable trust's plea

February 13, 2012 03:09 pm | Updated 03:09 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

All India Falahul Muslimeen Charitable Trust has appealed to the State government to consider the candidature of Prof. S.M. Iqbal for nomination as the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University. The Muslim community was never given an opportunity to hold the highest position in the university despite the community representing 15 per cent of the total population in the State. The Muslim community was educationally backward and therefore could not secure adequate jobs and prominent positions in proportion to its community strength.

Iqbal has all the requisite qualifications and experience in several capacities. He served as professor for 21 years out of his 37 years of service in the university. He held several positions including head of the department of Hindi, Chairman, Board of Studies in Hindi, Dean of Oriental Learning, Chief Warden and Principal, College of Arts and Humanities. He was also deputed by Government of India to Seoul in South Korea as visiting professor of Hindi.
