GVMC Contract Workers’ Union, affiliated to CITU, leading a three-day strike of contract and outsourced municipal workers demanding cancellation of GO 279 claimed that the strike on Tuesday was a success in the 72 wards of GVMC and Anakapalle and Bhimunipatnam.

The striking workers, led by union honorary president P Venkat Reddy, R K S V Kumar, T Nukaraju, and former corporator Botta Eswarama, among others, took out rallies.

Municipal Commissioner M Hari Narayanan asked officials to make alternative arrangements employing workers and making full use of regular workers.

The focus should be on thoroughfares, markets and commercial areas.

He visited the municipal sewage farms at One Town and transfer station at Gajuwaka and issued instructions on lifting of garbage.

Mr. Hari Narayanan appealed to people not to throw garbage into drains or onto roads as door-to-door collection was affected owing to the strike.
