March 10, 2012 03:12 pm | Updated 03:12 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The first meeting of the District Administration, the Andhra Cricket Association and IPL franchisee Deccan Chargers, on the DLF IPL matches to be held here on April 7 and 9, was held here on Friday.

Presiding over the meeting, Minister for Ports and Infrastructure Ganta Srinivasa Rao wanted all concerned to boost up the image of naturally beautiful Visakhapatnam as a major tourist attraction during the matches. Steps must be taken to highlight the tourist and historical locations in the national and international media, he said.

Collector Lav Agarwal wanted the officials to take special care to make the IPL matches, being played here for the first time, a success. GVMC officials were asked to ensure sanitation, lighting in and around the stadium while the AP Transco was told to provide uninterrupted power supply. Commissioner of Police J. Purnachandra Rao was asked to take care of parking of vehicles and uninterrupted flow of traffic.

Municipal Commissioner B. Ramanjaneyulu made it clear that the private companies have to pay the required tax to the GVMC on the hoardings and sign boards to be put up regarding the matches. There would not be any relaxation in this regard, he added. Deccan Chargers will meet Chennai Super Kings on April 7 and Mumbai Indians on April 9.
