: While welcoming the inauguration of OP services to mark the functioning of the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), the Uttarandhra Abhivruddhi Vedika wanted the hospital to be made fully functional without delay.
Concern over move
to sell land
There was a long delay in starting the hospital and now the government should convert it into a full-scale super specialities hospital by making use of the six blocks ready to accommodate 1300 beds, Vedika’s general secretary A. Aja Sarma said in a statement on Tuesday. The Vedika also expressed apprehensions over government’s reported plans to dispose of 50 acres out of the 110 acres of land on which VIMS came up.
It wanted the government to immediately release Rs. 100 crore to VIMS, appoint full-time doctors and paramedical staff, acquire the required equipment and provide all super speciality services.
Special funds
The Vedika expressed doubts over how long the doctors and nurses brought to VIMS on deputation from other hospitals would continue and wanted special funds and permanent doctors and others appointed to ensure that the services are provided in future also.
