Lifer for kidnap

A man was on Monday sentenced to life for kidnapping a schoolboy for ransom.

The accused S. Vinod Kumar had kidnapped an LKG student of Daffodils School at Marripalem VUDA Colony in March 2007. He called the school management over the phone and said that the boy's father had died and the boy should be sent home immediately. He sent someone to fetch the boy.

The accused took the boy to the railway station and confined him to a bogey on the sick line.

He called up the parents of the boy and demanded a random of Rs.10 lakh. Both parents, who were teachers, lodged a complaint with the Fifth Town police. The accused was caught by the police and the boy rescued.

Fourth Additional District Judge A. Radhakrishna also directed the kidnapper to pay a fine of Rs.500.

The prosecution was conducted by Public Prosecutor Bandaru Ramakrishna.
