A group of children, who are members of Jr. Jc. Wing of JCI Vizag Achievers, have come up with Operation DTH (Death Trap Hunt) to identify uncovered drains and manholes in the city during their Dasara vacation.

The children were touched by the death of the schoolgirl, C. Aditi, who fell into an uncovered drain at Seethammadhara HB Colony and died about a month ago. “We had managed to rescue a man who fell into a pit filled with rainwater in the past but we could not in the case of Aditi who went missing for days and finally found dead,” said Jr. Jc. Prerna.

She said that the JCI children with the support of citizens would identify the uncovered pits and sewage tanks in and around the city and place caution boards to prevent them from turning out to be death traps for unwary children and passers-by. The municipal authorities would also be informed about the death traps and the need to close them without any delay to prevent possible deaths in future. A rally would be organised with students of SFS School, Seethammadhara, on October 28 to create awareness among the general public about the impending dangers of uncovered pits and the need to close them.

JCI Vizag Achievers president Venkata Murali Palla said that a lot of uncovered pits were identified by the citizens as a result of the awareness created in the media over the extensive search operation for Aditi.
