Lambasingi shivers at zero degree once again

January 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:05 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Lambasingi in Visakha Agency area on Sunday recorded a minimum temperature of zero degree Celsius for the second time this winter. Earlier only once during 2012 and 2013, the temperature dipped this low. Good news is that the weather conditions are expected to continue, according to a scientist of Acharya Ranga AP Agriculture University's Regional Agriculture Research Station at Chintapalli Desagiri Sekhar, who is in-charge of IMD weather monitoring unit .

The cold spell is a continuation of the cold wave conditions extending over the peninsular India, due to which minimum temperatures are below normal by 4 to 6 degree Celsius at many places in Chhattisgarh, Marathawada, Vidarbha, Telangana and Odisha; by 2to 3 degrees C at many places over south peninsular India, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand; at a few places over Madhya Maharashtra and East Uttar Pradesh, according to the IMD website.

People from Vizag and neighbouring districts are thronging Lambasingi, located 1,000 meters above the sea level to enjoy the chilly climate. Even as the zero temperature is attracting more tourists, the weather is causing a lot of problems to the people of Visakha Agency as the minimum temperature continues in single digit. Chintapalli recorded 3 degrees, Paderu 6 degrees and other places also experienced similar temperature. Fevers, cough, cold and joint pains are bothering people and diarrhoea cases are being reported. Thick fog is obstructing traffic on ghat roads.
