Even as on-site work on TU-142 fighter aircraft museum has to gather momentum for a formal inauguration by August 15, an integrated tourist museum complex is on the cards on the Beach Road.

According to plans being worked out by officials, the museum complex comprises Victory-at-Sea Memorial, Kursura Submarine museum and Rajiv Smruti Bhavan.

The integrated museum combines all of them for tourists with a single ticket and may take about half a day for the visit, according to information available.

An audio-visual show on the Kursura submarine and TU-142 is being planned with life on them and how they worked. A laser show is also on the cards.

The integrated museum was mooted at a meeting the Chief Minister had with the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the ENC and the District Collector during his visit to receive the decommissioned TU-142.

The project is being executed for the Tourism Department by VUDA. Responding to the Expression of Interest (EoI) called for by VUDA, four consultants have submitted technical and financial bids to prepare the design. The designs will be examined by a committee of officials comprising VUDA Vice-Chairman, the Chief Engineer, officials from the Navy, the Tourism Department and GVMC.

After technical qualification, a combined evaluation with price bids will be taken up to finalise the agency, it was learnt.

After finalising the design, the next process of preparing detailed project reports, funding aspects and how to take up the work will come for consideration, say sources.

Multi-level parking

VUDA has been planning a multi-level parking in the city for a long time now. First it was mooted at Ramangar and later near the City Central Park. The present integrated plan includes a multi-level parking lot. However, whether it will finally materialise depends upon the availability of site and revenue generation projected, say sources.

The entire project is estimated to cost upwards of ₹70 crore.
