Innovative scientific concepts were on display at the State-level Inspire Manak-2019 Science Exhibition conducted at SFS School in Seethammadhara here on Sunday.
Seed ball device
J. Nitish Kumar, a Class IX student of Peddi Reddypalli ZP High School in Nellore district, modified an old bicycle to work as a seed ball-making device. Under the guidance of his teacher Prasad, Nitish attached a large plastic drum to the wheels of a bicycle. Wet soil and seeds were placed in the drum after which the bicycle was pedalled to rotate the drum. The motion would lead to the mixing of the seeds with the mud, resulting in the formation of seed balls.“The seed balls can be stored for five years ,” the guide teacher told The Hindu .
Kundurthi Khuresh of CKJRC High School at Mangalagiri of Guntur district developed a set of simple tools that could be used by construction workers as well as physically challenged persons. Khuresh also developed a ‘smart’ bicycle with a solar panel and starts moving forward at the click of a button.
Stagnation problem
Dadi Rohita, studying in Class VIII at MPUP School in Veeravilli in Visakhapatnam district, showcased a water filtration system that would serve the twin benefits of preventing water stagnation and improving groundwater levels. “Our school is located in a low-lying area and rainwater stagnates for a long time after rain. This got me thinking that if rainwater permeates to the groundwater table, the stagnation will be prevented ,” Rohita said. HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao inaugurated the exhibition.
