GVMC plans to beautify city junctions

Meeting held with representatives of hotels and other organisations

GVMC has mooted improvement of five important junctions in the city with the 51 per cent component of Visakhapatnam Port Trust funds and other thoroughfares with participation of hotels and commercial organisations as a part of beautification and streamlining traffic.

At a meeting he held with representatives of hotels and other organisations on Wednesday, Municipal Commissioner B. Ramanjaneyulu said with the port trust funds Rednam Gardens, Ambedkar Junction, Jagadamba Junction, Park Hotel Junction, and CR Reddy Junction would be developed as pilot projects. Also 54 centralised parking lots would be formed and signalling arranged in 90 junctions. Any statues obstructing traffic would be removed.

Thoroughfares at Dwarakanagar, Akkayyapalem, Sankaramatham, Jagadamba Junction, Dolphin Hotel, Dabagardens, Maddilapalem etc totalling 50 km would be developed in a full-fledged manner to pave way for smooth flow of traffic and clearing footpaths.

Appeal to traders

He appealed to businessmen and hoteliers to co-operate and contribute and they agreed to it, said an official release.

A retired professor of Banaras Hindu University, B.V. Suryanarayana, announced a contribution of Rs.1 lakh. He suggested that citizens' views be taken into consideration for developing roads by forming panels.
