Gold ornaments worth Rs. 15 lakh stolen

‘The thieves opened the door through a window and gained entry into the house'

In a major robbery, dacoits decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs.15 lakhs from the house of a businessman at Daspalla Hills in the early hours of Friday.

P. Prem Chand is living in a four-storeyed building along with his family members. He gave the first and second floors on rent and kept the third and fourth floors for himself.

He and his family members were awake till around midnight on Thursday.

They closed the doors and windows before going to sleep but forgot to close one window on the rear of the house.

The thieves opened the door by passing their hands through the grills of the open window and gained entry into the house.

They walked into the bedroom, took the almyrah keys, which were lying in the room, and quietly removed the gold ornaments and Rs.15,000 from the locker even as the inmates were fast asleep.

Three Town Inspector Lakshmana Murthy said that the robbery was committed between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m.

Police Commissioner J. Purnachandra Rao and other top police officials visited the scene of crime. Special teams were formed to nab the culprits. Three Town Police are investigating the case.

RI for woman

Judge of the Mahila Court N. Raja Prasad Baba found a house-wife from Kancharaveedhi guilty under Section 306 of IPC (abetment to suicide) for forcing her sister-in-law to commit suicide and sentenced her to undergo six years of rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs. 1,000 here on Friday.

According to Additional Public Prosecutor K. Aruna, Maroju Kusuma Kumari (30) started harassing her sister-in-law (husband's younger sister) M. Meenakshi (21) soon after the latter's marriage was fixed since some money was to be spent on the ceremony.

She subjected Meenakshi to mental and physical torture. Unable to bear the torture Meenakshi had committed suicide by hanging herself at her house on February 6, 2005. One Town Police investigated the case.
