Ganta for involvement of MLAs in GVMC development works

July 22, 2012 02:27 pm | Updated 02:34 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Minister for Minor Ports, Infrastructure and Investments Ganta Srinivasa Rao asked the officials of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) to involve the MLAs and people’s representatives in the decision-making process pertaining to various development works.

The Minister found fault with the District Collector and GVMC Commissioner for taking individual decisions without taking the MLAs into confidence at a meeting held at the GVMC on Saturday. He advised them to form Advisory Committees with the MLAs as the tenure of the general body had ended. The committees could review the development works being undertaken once in every 15 days.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao expressed dissatisfaction at the delay in the completion of the works taken up under JNNURM. Though five years had passed, only 80 per cent of the works were completed. He asked the officials to apprise the government if there were any problems in execution so that the bottlenecks could be overcome. He welcomed the idea that Visakhapatnam could be developed on the lines of Singapore and said: “let’s all work together for the development of the city”.

District Collector Lav Agarwal welcomed the suggestion of the Minister and said that an advisory committee would soon be formed with MLAs to review the development works.

Earlier, GVMC Commissioner B. Ramanjaneyulu gave a PowerPoint presentation on the progress of development works. MLA s Dronamraju Srinivas, Tynala Vijay Kumar, Malla Vijay Prasad, Panchakarla Ramesh Babu and Avanthi Srinivas (Bheemunipatnam) were among those who attended.
