Furniture was gutted in the reading room adjacent to the Andhra University library after a fire broke out there in the early hours of Friday. The benches and chairs in the room were reduced to cinders even as the employees tried to douse the flames.

Vice-Chancellor G. Nageswara Rao, after visiting the reading room, asked Chief Librarian K. Visweswara Rao to lodge a police complaint. It’s learnt that the AU officials were supecting a foul play as there was reportedly no evidence of power short circuit.

‘Repairs after probe’

The officials announced closure of the reading room after the mishap.

The necessary repairs would be done after the probe into the incident is completed, sources in Andhra University said.
