It was fun-based education for a group of children. With enthusiasm writ large on their faces, they sought clarification to their doubts on robotics.

As part of The Hindu Young World carnival, a free robotics workshop was organised by the Academy of Robotics at T.V.S.Rao Srikrishna Vidya Mandir here on Saturday.

The mood at the workshop was set by screening videos of latest robots around the world. When M. Srikant, managing director, Academy of Robotics asked the children, “

“who is the father of robotics?” a roof shattering response came from 50 odd children, “Joseph Engelberger!” The children proved that they have done their home work well.

The Academy of Robotics was incubated by XLr8 Andhra Pradesh, a technology accelerator powered by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry & IC2 Institute of The University of Texas, Austin at Tirupati. It has also partnered with The Lincoln University, New Zealand .

“The Academy of Robots is now running in 22 cities”, said Srikan adding the workshop was a great platform to address curiosity about the automation industry.

In total, about 100 students attended the workshop. The two-hour workshop was divided into two groups - seniors and juniors. It began with a power-point presentation about the history of robots. Soon the children were divided into groups of three so that they could interact with the robots on display.

The workshop for seniors in the age group of 11-15 started at 2 pm. B.V. Sai Harsha said “in workshops like this, we have fun and learn practically.”

On Sunday, a workshop will take children through interesting Math concepts using abacus from 11 am . For more details login on to youngworldclub.com.
