Even when it is a routine work that has to be carried out in due course, it takes some effort to get it done by pursuing it, says Visakhapatnam South MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar.
Towards this end, he has started ‘Dial Your MLA’ programme. Every Monday from 9.30 a.m. to 11 a.m. calls are received by the MLA at the party office in the presence of officials mainly of GVMC and EPDCL.
On an average, 50 to 60 calls are received on issues like water supply this being summer, low voltage, clogged drains and poor street-lighting or bending of electric poles etc.
“After receiving the calls, I and officials are going to the areas from where problems are reported,” says Mr. Ganesh Kumar.
Though the constituency is better than the others in getting LED lights, to solve the problems of 230 lights not being fixed, it was decided to the use old tube-lights.
From Jnanapuram and Chilakapeta Junction residents complained about not enough lighting and some miscreants indulging in thefts etc. “We have decided to set up high-mast lights there besides improving street-lighting,” Mr Ganesh Kumar said.
“Funds are being spent from the respective departments and it is not always the question of funds. Sometimes there is some neglect which has to be tackled by pursuing the works,” the MLA pointed out.
