With the Cricket World Cup fever touching a peak and the Men in Blue racing ahead in the tournament, a bunch of young cricket lovers from the City of Destiny has come out with a promotional video capturing the spirit of the game. The core team, comprising B. Kushal, Bunny Jaswanth, Nandu, Surya Chaitanya, E. Trinadh, K. Priyanka, and J. Shweta, uploaded the video on March 13 on YouTube, which has already received 4,583 views and garnered 300 shares.

The peppy and spirited 4-minute video has been shot in key locations in the city like Beach Road, AU Grounds, YMCA and the fishing colonies with more than 600 people involving in it. “We had been contemplating bringing out a video on the World Cup fever from the start of the tournament. Seeing the Indian team’s terrific performance in the tournament, we thought it is time to give the Men in Blue a salute on behalf of all Vizagites. We first approached former India cricketer and wicket keeper M.S.K. Prasad who gave us a lot of confidence to go ahead. Later, we involved him in a few shots in the video,” said B. Kushal, who conceptualised, directed and choreographed the video. It took the team two days to shoot and finalise the video before uploading it. The videography was done by Bunny, Nandu and Chaitanya with Canon 6D, 60D and 70D cameras. The catchy music in the video is a mix of Shankar Mahadevan’s ‘De Ghumake’ and ‘Vande Mataram’ from the film ‘Khadgam’, which the team used after getting copyright issues cleared from Universal Music and Aditya Music.

Main idea

“Our idea was to involve people from all age groups and religion and have the city of Vizag as a central symbol,” said the young team. Right from tiny tots cheering with the Indian flag, elderly people doing the signature move on the beach road to shots of cricket fans praying in temples, churches and mosques– the video has managed to rope in people from all walks of life. The most challenging part was involving the kindergarten children to do synchronised movements. “We had to take care the children didn’t throw the Indian flag on the ground,” said Kushal. The other challenging shot was the Indian flag formation with students from classes 7 to 10. “Getting all the shots right in such a short time was difficult. But now we look back, it was seems fun,” he added. An engineering graduate, Kushal, had previously done promotional videos for the films Manam, Gopala Gopala and Temper. The video of Temper had got 1.7 lakh views and was appreciated by the film’s director Puri Jagannadh.
