Lack of interest in democratic process and people’s welfare is evident in the ‘inaction’ of the Telugu Desam government in the last one year. It has neither taken any steps to conduct elections to the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation nor made any move to draw up laws to regulate the GVMC, Communist Party of India State assistant secretary J.V.V. Satyanarayana Murthy has said.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who claims to be committed to people’s welfare and have drawn up innovative policies has not yet been able to get the government frame laws pertaining to municipal bodies. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Act was applicable to the GVMC in the undivided State and even after one year of bifurcation it continues to be applicable. It was a shame that this government was unable to draw up an Act for the GVMC and instead issued an order on continuing laws from another State, Mr Murthy said while addressing the media here on Sunday.
None of the promises made on the Floor of the Assembly in September last was being implemented. While making a statement on the selection of Tullur for the State capital region, Mr Chandrababu Naidu had promised a number of institutions to each of the other 12 districts, today all the institutions were going to be established in the six zones of the capital region, he said.
It takes no initiative to conduct elections to GVMC
