When the content has become a quintessential part of filmmaking, how one balances the storyline focusing on multiple factors plays a role in the entire process of making a cinema. What is required for any aspiring filmmaker is a detailed analysis of every situation and the ability to weave a story connecting different threads.
These were some of the key points highlighted by director and music composer R.P. Patnaik at the two-day workshop on ‘awareness on filmmaking’ that concluded at Human Resource Development Centre, Andhra University, on Sunday.
Certificate course
For those who wanted to try their luck in the mainstream cinema, apart from making short films, the certificate course, supported by the Vizag Film Society, provided a chance to understand the nuances of filmmaking and inspired the aspirants to look behind the scenes.
From production management to editing and developing a screenplay, Mr. Patnaik covered several topics.
“Every experience gives way to a new story idea. One should have an open mind and be ready to convert the idea into a movie,” he explains.
More than 70 budding filmmakers and amateur artistes from Araku, Vizianagaram, Anakapalle, and Visakhapatnam took part in the workshop.
“As an artiste, it is important to understand the character of the role in detail. This helps in giving the best possible shot,” explains P. Anvesh, who acted in five short films earlier.
While most people get carried away by the glitz and glamour of cinema, Mr. Patnaik gave an insight into the other side of the make-believe world.
“Before venturing into films, it is essential to understand the workings of production management. When a person is aware of the dark shades of the business, it becomes easy for him to handle the crisis efficiently,” says Hanisha, an architect and Assistant Professor of GITAM University who attended the session.
