Students of a vocational college turn violent after a student complained of alleged sexual assault, in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday.

The Managing Director of a vocational junior college was taken into custody by the Kancharapalem police on Tuesday for allegedly trying to sexually assault a student. The accused had been identified as BVNS Kumar.

Though the incident took place on Friday, it came to light on Tuesday after the girl shared it with her classmates. The news led to tension in the college with the students roughing up the MD and vandalising furniture. Police reached the spot in time, pacified the students and took the accused into custody.

The accused reportedly asked the girl to help him clean his house. After she entered the house, he bolted the door and tried to sexually assault her. The girl managed to escape. We had taken her complaint, said ACP L. Arjun.

The wife of the accused reached the college and reportedly told the police that her husband was not a man of good character and had earlier molested a few girls promising help in clearing board examinations.

Case registered

The college was now closed and Mr. Kumar had started Visakha Vocational Junior College in Dabagardens. The police booked cases based on the complaints given by two girls under the relevant Sections of sexual assault and molestation. Investigation is on.

The SFI activists staged a protest, condemning the incident.
