A programme held in China to promote Buddhist circuit and beach tourism in Visakhapatnam and other places in Andhra Pradesh has evoked an encouraging response.
Tour operators there also evinced interest in bringing Chinese tourists to India. In an effort to portray AP as a global tourism destination, Tourism Department Principal Secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad took part in Beijing International Tourism Expo (BITE 2015-16) in China. “The response was quite encouraging,” he said in a release issued by the Tourism Department.
During his visit, Mr. Prasad held meetings with the Buddhist Association of China which expressed deep interest in visiting Amaravati, Nagarjuna Konda and other Buddhist sites in AP.
Highlighting the potential of AP as a tourist destination, Mr. Prasad explained the potential to promote the beaches in and around Vizag, the hill stations, the backwaters of Kakinada, Konaseema, the Hope Island and the Coringa mangroves and the Budhist circuits linking Amaravati and Nagarjuna Konda.
“Our upcoming Buddhist circuits will attract both domestic and international tourists. Amaravati's ancient connection with Buddhism raises its prospects of becoming a global city,” he said.
