Ramineni Foundation of the U.S. has selected eminent speaker on spiritual matters Chaganti Koteswara Rao for its ‘Visishta Puraskaram’ for 2015.
Actor of yesteryear Kaikala Satyanarayana, noted writer Ampasayya Naveen, and writer and journalist C. Mrunalini have been selected for the foundation’s ‘Visesha Puraskaram’.
The awards would be presented during a function to be organised here on October 12 to mark the 86{+t}{+h}birth anniversary of Ramineni Ayyanna Chowdary, Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao said at a press conference on Monday.
“The programme is in tune with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s wish to organise one function in the city on every October 12 to explain to the outside world that Visakhapatnam has overcome heavy damage caused by the very severe cyclone Hudhud on that day in 2014,” Mr. Srinivasa Rao said.
The last time the function was held here was three years ago. Foundation chairman Ramineni Dharmapracharak and convenor and former Chairman of Guntur Zilla Parishad Pathuri Nagabhushanam said that the annual awards had been instituted in 1999 to honour eminent personalities in literary, cultural, spiritual, and education areas. The awards function was held many times in Hyderabad and once in Vijayawada.
Pratibha Puraskarams are also being awarded since 2001 to Class 10 toppers of ZP High Schools in some areas. Later, they have been gradually extended to cover toppers in each Assembly segment and mandal. Medals are given to top three in Guntur district (this is extended to all those achieving 10 GPA). These apart, headmasters of ZP High Schools achieving 100 per cent pass are also felicitated.
This year, students and headmasters of Government High Schools too will be awarded the Purasakarams along with those from ZP High Schools.
