It is celebration time for the students of Government Residential School for Visually-Challenged Girls as they have not only passed the Class X examination with flying colours but also found a way out to pursue their higher studies.
Divis Laboratories Limited in Chippada, as part of its first-ever CSR initiative, has taken up the responsibility of providing free education to seven students of the school at Netra Vidyalaya Junior College in Shamshabad. The company has decided to bear all expenses such as annual fee, and board and transportation charges for the next few years.
“Our representatives have visited the college and examined the existing amenities there before proceeding further. This has helped us in convincing a majority of parents, who have been a little apprehensive about sending their children to Hyderabad for higher education,” says E.S. Nagaraju, senior CSR executive of Divis Laboratories Limited.
Opting for either CEC or HEC groups, the students are showing keen interest in exploring the unexplored path.
“Initially, my mother was reluctant to the proposal. However, my teachers and friends have convinced her to accept the offer,” says Alla Divya, one of the selected girls.
For Paila Ekaveera, who has secured 7.2 Grade Point Average in the examination, the real concern seems to be the shift from Telugu medium to English medium. But she hopes to face the challenge with the support of her friends.
Supporting the concept of integrated system of education, school principal S. Nimton Babu says, “There is a bright scope for broadening their horizons of learning if the visually-impaired study along with others students. However, this integrated approach will be effective only if the existing educational institutions have an audio library, a computer lab with JAWS software, and better support system.”
The school in Sagar Nagar provides free education. It has begun the admission process for the next academic year. For details, contact 9000013636.
