Big offer for Bengaluru flyers

June 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Air Asia has announced a ‘big sale’ to passengers flying between Visakhapatnam and Bengaluru at Rs.999. The sale, which opened on Monday, will be on till June 28 for travel between February 15, 2016 and August 31, 2016.

Four direct flights are being operated from Vizag to Bengaluru by three airline operators.

The Air Asia flight leaves at 6.40 p.m. and reaches Bengaluru at 8.10 p.m. Air Costa operates in the morning and SpiceJet operates two flights -- one in the afternoon and the other in the evening.

Air Asia is also offering discounted fares from Visakhapatnam to Kuala Lumpur at Rs.2,999 and to Singapore at Rs.3,999 and by connecting flights to other international destinations.

Fare war

Some more airline operators are said to be keen on joining the fare war. “It’s too early to talk on the discounted fares as most airline companies announce special offers three to four months in advance,” says a travel agent.

“This offer, which comes eight months in advance, will be useful to those who are sure that their travel plans do not go haywire. This is because generally the special fares are non-refundable and anyone having to cancel the trip would lose heavily,” says another agent.

Meanwhile, it’s learnt that some more international airline operators are keen on operating from Dubai, Sri Lanka and Bangkok to Visakhapatnam. Some more airline operators are also said to be planning to operate from Visakhapatnam to Chennai.

Air Costa, the Vijayawada-based airline company, is said to planning to station one of its flights at Visakhapatnam Airport in the near future. This implies that the airline would operate a late night flight to Visakhapatnam.

Visakhapatnam International Airport has six parking bays. IndiGo is said to have plans to make Visakhapatnam Airport a hub for their operations in the south. All these developments and the discount offers by various airline operators are sure to see a tremendous growth in the number of passengers from Visakhapatnam Airport, both domestic and international.

Vijayawada Airport has seen the introduction of more flights by Air India after the announcement of Vijayawada as the capital region for the Andhra Pradesh, post bifurcation. Similarly, Tirupati Airport is also growing in view of its importance as a pilgrimage centre.
