Award for violinist L. Subramaniam

The Ramavarapu Vijayalakshmi Memorial Music and Charitable Trust announced that the first Ramavarapu Vijayalakshmi global music award, instituted in the memory of noted veena and vocal music personality, would be presented to noted violinist L. Subramaniam.

The award would be presented to Dr. Subramaniam during a function to be organised jointly by NSTL and the trust at NSTL’s Manasi auditorium on Vijayadasami evening to mark the Vijayalakshmi’s birth anniversary. The trust is also presenting the best student gold medal to Tanikella Aparna, its managing trustee Ramavarapu Madhuri Devi and trustees M.S. Srinivas and Ramavarapu Ravindra Tejaswi informed at a press conference here on Sunday. Dr. Subramaniam would perform after receiving the award. Late Vijayalakshmi was an accomplished musician and her innovation of ‘Vipanchi Veena’, with 15 strings, was said to be a notable contribution to music.

She passed away during February, a day after her disciples staged a performance to honour her contribution to the music world. At present, her daughter Dr. Madhuri Devi and son Dr. Ravindra Tejaswi are continuing her work.

While Director of NSTL C.D. Malleswar would preside over the awards function, Director General (naval systems and materials) of DRDO V. Bhujanga Rao, CMD of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant P. Madhusudhan, former Rector of Andhra University A. Prasanna Kumar would speak.

Young musicians would present a music programme, Guru Vijayam Vande, and a documentary, Vainika Sadguru Siromani,, as a tribute to their teacher.

He will be presented with the Ramavarapu Vijayalakshmi global music award on Vijayadasami day
