Auto drivers seek implementation of insurance policy

February 03, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Andhra Pradesh Auto Drivers and Workers Federation has appealed to the State government not insist on ‘driver badge’ to implement the insurance scheme, which it had introduced, for the benefit of drivers in the case of accident and natural death of auto drivers.

In a statement, federation State general secretary G. Vamana Murthy said that though the government had announced Rs.5 lakh in case of accident death and Rs.30,000 for natural death of auto drivers, the Labour Department was not paying the policy amount on the plea that their names were not registered with the department.

He demanded that compensation be paid to the beneficiaries on the basis of the driving licence and not on whether their name was registered.
